Texas Children's Hospital Pavilion for Women is a 15-story, 1.3-million-sq-ft facility that connects to the Texas Children's West Tower via a two-story sky bridge, the largest in the state.
FKP Architects designed the $375-million project, which includes a 99-bed maternity center, clinics and office spaces built over a four-level sub-grade 1,000-car parking garage.
The elliptical sky bridge, which is 580 ft long and 34 ft tall, utilizes a structural truss design and is covered with curtain wall and aluminum cladding in order to withstand 130-mph winds. To safely install the bridge over busy roadways, it had to be constructed in eight segments over six weekends.
