Regent at City Creek

Sleek and modern, The Regent at City Creek redefines luxury in urban living. Restaurants and shops occupy the main floor of the 20-story tower, while the third-floor terrace features amenities from pools and fitness centers to entertainment rooms.

Two cranes were used to access all sides of the building on the tight downtown Salt Lake City site. An anti-collision and zoning system prevented cranes from flying loads over forbidden zones or colliding with each other. Cranes were fitted with multiple sensors that alerted operators to potential collisions.

After the cranes were dismantled, additional items and materials that were too bulky to fit inside standard elevators needed to be transported to the higher floors. Jacobsen's team devised a pulley system to hoist materials up to the balconies, where they were taken inside through sliding glass doors.

Numerous mock-ups were created to establish quality expectations, to move through or fine-tune processes and to ensure that certain materials or methods would work. The team designed and built a mock-up of an entire concrete floor, including placements marked for reinforcements, embeds, mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations and penetrations to familiarize workers with the sequence of work before the first concrete floor was poured.
