The Kansas City, Mo., city council voted 8-5 on Feb. 8 to move forward with Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate via a memorandum of understanding for a new single-terminal Kansas City International Airport.

The yay voting bloc for the $1-billion airport project MOU was led by Mayor Sly James (D).

“It’s really some heavy-handed politics by AECOM and Burns & McDonnell, who were unsuccessful in securing the bid, doing everything they can to undermine [Edgemoor] so that they can get exactly the result councilman Wagner believes he can produce with his pivot back to AECOM,” James said in a radio interview before the vote.

Burns & McDonnell denies that it ever tried to undermine Edgemoor’s MOU or progress with the city council.
