The 175-ft Trail Bridge at Congress Avenue allows pedestrians and cyclists to pass underneath Congress Avenue away from vehicle traffic.

One of the biggest challenges for the construction team was accessing the construction site, which sits over Lady Bird Lake and is inaccessible by vehicle. The project team decided the most efficient way to access and build the new bridge was to deliver prefabricated materials by barge.

Austin’s famous bat colony lives beneath the Congress Avenue Bridge, so some of the 1.5 million bats had to be relocated to ensure they wouldn’t be affected by construction.
