The $36.2-million E.B. Cushing Track & Field Stadium features a grandstand that has nearly 2,300 seats. The stands overlook an IAAF-certified track surface designed for resiliency to the elements. Hardening the site’s clay soil required chemical soil stabilization that changes the molecular structure of the clay so it doesn’t perform like a sponge and retain excessive amounts of water. During this process, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water were injected 10 feet deep at 3-ft increments across the entire track area. The new three-level stadium building houses a Hall of Honors, offices for coaches, meeting rooms, video rooms, a student-athlete lounge, locker rooms, a press box and areas to entertain recruits and their families.
