This museum promotes the rich culture of Mexico and Mexican-Americans. The museum floors span 706 Mission and the historic Aronson Building, built in 1903 and notable for having survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. The building’s historic nature presented challenges for the team, including working with outdated or unavailable drawings. That led to unexpected conditions discovered during demolition and field layout for the rehabilitation work and in connecting the old building with the new tower. The two buildings were not perpendicularly aligned within the property lines and needed additional surveying and documentation to coordinate the layout for connecting floor levels. The team installed transition beams to connect and level the floors and transfer loads from the historic building as part of the overall rehabilitation.
